The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Last Saturday night the Swindon Wildcats lost out to a Peterborough Phantoms side, who took a 3-2 win on the road as the two battled in the only dweekend fixture.
Although the home side got off a promising start, it would be Peterborough who would find the net first. At 14:25 defenceman James Morgan saw his wristshot from the point beat a screened James Hadfield who although trying to block the shot, could not read where the puck was to go. Five minutes on and Swindon then responded with a goal of their own when import Toivo Suursoo got on the end of a rebound shot, to put the puck past the Phantoms netminder to tie the scores. What was an exciting first period lined a up a second in which would see two more goals and a change in the game's score.
Six minutes into the second period and Peterborough then found the next goal when Jeff Glowa's effort gave a rebound for Joe Miller to then slot home for his side's second. After assisting both previous goals Glowa then found the net himself in the 32nd minute after a burst to the net and around a nearby defenceman.
With the final period being very different for both teams, the action continued and both battled hard right up until the final buzzer. At 49:45 the Wildcats were able to close the gap to within one, after captain Lee Richardson took the puck from the corner and with persavirence to towards the net, the puck was tapped in.
However with time against them the Wildcats did well to keep the score close, but with Phantom's netminder Stephen Wall standing strong, they could not find that next goal to get themselves back into the game. With the final buzzer sounding, the Peterborough Phantoms earned themselves an away win and out shooting the travelling side 36 shots to 41, Swindon had to face a loss in a very tight game.
The Wildcats have to now bounce back from this when they next face the Telford Tigers this Saturday, in what is going to be a extremely close fixture. Only a point seperates the two sides so both have everything to play for as the two battle for a higher playoff position come the end of the season.
