Gutted. Robbed. But consolation in a solid three-point weekend.

In a physical, entertaining encounter, the hosts took both points, but the Bees will count themselves extremely unlucky.

Tom Annetts started in goal, whilst Scott Spearing and Carl Graham were again missing through injury. Rob Lamey returned as Captain following his one-match suspension.

As is usual on the smaller Peterborough ice pad, the Phantoms came out flying and their early pressure paid off at only 2:55, when the always dangerous Andrej Lauko found space in front of the net to squeeze the puck home under Annetts pads.

The Bees hit back straight away though at 4:05, when Alex Barker broke away and squared the puck to James Galazzi, who turned it home past Damien King for the equaliser.

Both goalies then made some big saves to keep things level, until 13:39 when former-Bee Greg Randall muscled his way to the front of the net and slipped the puck through Annetts pads, for it to trickle over the line.

Neither side could find an opening in a feisty second period and the Bees ran into penalty trouble towards the end of it and at the start of the third, but on each occasion the PK units were superb, giving up little opportunity for the hosts to increase their lead.

In fact at 46:43 with Brad Watchorn sitting in the box on a Holding call, Martin Masa broke up the Phantoms play on the Bees blue line and released Lukas Smital on a breakaway and the Bees top scorer made no mistake to score low on King's glove hand.

Both sides had opportunities to wrap up the points in regulation, but overtime loomed for the second game of the weekend.

With one point secured, the Bees found themselves having to kill another penalty at 61:14 when Lamey was sent to the box for a Cross Check, but frustratingly it was the Phantoms who should have been short-handed after the officials failed to call Too Many Imports on the hosts. Again, the PK units put in a fantastic effort to restrict the Phantoms to only limited opportunities.

With the penalty expired, the Bees thought they had won the game at 63:48, when a Ben Johnson shot from the point hit Lamey in front of the net and deflected past King. The Bees took to the ice in celebration, only for referee Joy Tottman to disallow the goal as she  harshly and frustratingly adjudged that the Captain had deliberately kicked it in.

So to penalties yet again. Smital and Peter Jasik converted the first two, but Masa just missed with the third. Shaun Thompson then scored, but after Joe Graham buried the Phantoms fifth penalty, Barker suffered agony as his shot pinged back off King's goalpost.

The point gained means that the Bees maintain the better head-to-head record over the Phantoms, which could be crucial in the run in, but both sides have also closed the gap on 7th placed Swindon. It's going to be an interesting February!

Tom Annetts picked up the Bees man of the match award, turning aside 40 shots.
