Phoenix set to swoop for Huppe?
The Manchester Phoenix could be set to swoop for former Belfast Giants and Hull Stingrays forward Curtis Huppe according to Dave Simms’ official Twitter account.
The 31-year-old Canadian is believed to have been in discussions with a number of Elite League and English Premier League clubs, however it now looks likely that Manchester could be his final destination.
Huppe who parted company with the Hull Stingrays in April, was rumoured sometime ago to be re-joining the Belfast Giants after playing for the Emerald Isle team for three seasons from 2004 to 2007.
Eligible for the EPL through marriage, Manchester player-coach Tony Hand has made it no secret that he was looking to make a number of changes to his import line-up for 2010/11. Despite Ed Courtenay being one of the most prolific players in the EPL, the former NHLer departed Manchester to concentrate on his business back in the US during the final phase of the league season.
The recent signing of the experienced Pavel Gomenyuk from Hull certainly looks to be a good addition for the Phoenix and with the expected departure of Andre Payette it could be possible that Huppe could be plying his trade at the Altrincham come September.
