Manchester Phoenix captain Luke Boothroyd completed another stunning weekend for the league leaders this weekend with an overtime winner against the Milton Keynes Lightning.

In a tough weekend, Phoenix came from behind twice as they defeated Bracknell Bees away on Saturday, and the Lightning 5-4 after trailing both games 4-1.

Adam Summerfield continued in goal for the Phoenix with Steve Fone still sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Goals from Adam Brittle, Michael Farn and Monir Kalgoum (2) had put the visitors firmly in control, a lone Adam Walker strike was Phoenix’s reply until late in the second period. Two strikes in thirty seconds from the home side reduced the deficit drastically, Andre Mattsson and Adam Walker netting on the powerplay.

The third periods only goal came on the powerplay from the hardworking Jaakko Hagelberg, deflecting an Ed Courtenay shot past Barry Hollyhead in the Lightning net to tie the scores at 4-4 late in the period to send the game into overtime.

In the extra period, both teams received matching minor penalties and Phoenix utilized the space to create an opening for Luke Boothroyd down the left wing and his snapped effort flew through Hollyhead to seal the points.
