Popular young forward returns to Tigers
Popular forward Ashley Calvert is set to return to Telford Tigers after the 19-year-old asked to be released from Bracknell Bees, where he has played for 14 months.
Tigers player-coach Tom Watkins said: "Ashley is very keen and I think he will fit in well in our dressing room.
"He is young, strong and quick and he's scored some very good goals, so he will be a good addition to our squad. We have submitted the paperwork and hope to have him registered in time for this weekend's games."
Calvert joined Tigers in 2008, scoring 15 points in 53 games, and moved to the Bees along with former Telford player-coach Claude Dumas last season, but was reportedly not getting as much ice time as he would like down in Berkshire.
Watkins added: "It's hard for these young guys; all they want to do is play. I've only seen him a couple of times but everyone I have spoken to about him says he has a lot of talent."
Calvert said: "I went on the ice with the Tigers when they practised on Tuesday and they are a good group of lads. I'm looking forward to being back in Telford."
The 6-footer works as a bricklayer during the week and will commute from his home in Nottingham.
He added: "I had also been finding the travelling a bit too much.
Being this much closer to home means I won't be so tired."
Adding Calvert to the squad could not come at a better time for Tigers as Joe Henry is expected to be missing for the next few games with a shoulder injury.
"Joe was due to have it scanned during the week so we just have to wait and see what the doctors say," said Watkins. "Hopefully he will only be out of action for two or three weeks."
Tigers are on the road to Slough on Saturday before meeting Swindon Wildcats at Telford Ice Rink on Sunday (5.30pm).
