Raiders move to the National League

Romford Raiders are delighted to announce that the team has been accepted in the ENIHL and Raiders will play in Division 1 South next season, renewing much-missed rivalries with teams like Chelmsford, Invicta and Wightlink.

Represented by new Raiders’ owner Ollie Oliver and re-appointed team manager, Mick Cahill, the team was accepted after making their case to an ENIHL South meeting today (Sunday) in Bracknell.

“I must admit Ollie and I had gone there expecting to answer the questions raised by our application. Instead, we were asked to give a verbal presentation to make our case and in hindsight, I think that worked to our advantage.

“We had no hidden agenda, simply a wish to keep Romford Raiders alive and to present the best viable hockey we can at Rom Valley Way. Whatever had gone before with other teams at other times was out of our hands and we’re grateful to the majority that thankfully voted in our favour. Understandably, we weren’t invited to be present when the poll took place so officially, we have no idea how votes were cast. However, if what we’ve heard unofficially is true, while we respect their opinion we are disappointed at some of the teams who didn’t want Raiders accepted. That’s life, we were accepted by enough teams to allow us to take our place in Division 1 and team building starts now.

“It would have been unwise to say anything until today because, until today, we had no guarantee that Raiders would even exist as an entity next season. Now, we can confirm that Danny Marshall has accepted our offer to be Raiders’ player/coach and we’re particularly thrilled that Super Dan will be staying at home. Not for the first time, the uncertainty over Raiders’ future has had an impact on our recruitment plans but we are where we are, we’re now officially a team with a League to play in so we start from here.”

"I'm sure Ollie will be making his own statement soon but in the meantime we thank the Romford supporters for their patience in what has been a frustrating time for them and an incredibly busy one for us behind the scenes. We think their patience will be rewarded and we hope we can count on the continued support of the best fans in the land."
