Raiders sign new netminder
The Wightlink Raiders have moved quickly to fill the gap caused by Matt Colclough’s departure by signing 19 year old Scottish netminder Colin McGill.
Colin played at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in British Columbia, Canada before playing ACHA Division 1 for Minot State University until early this year when he returned to Scotland to play for Kilmarnock in the Scottish National League. During his spell in Kilmarnock his team remained unbeaten. He will replace Matt Colclough as first choice netminder after he was snapped up by an EPL team.
Player coach Jeremy Cornish says McGill comes highly recommended.
“Colin has been playing in North America for the last couple of years and is looking at making a name for himself in England.We’re pretty excited about helping him reach his goals with the Raiders. I've had a few good reports on Colin and his fitness and commitment to the game are second to none. Colin had played the last half of the season in the Scottish National League and has yet to lose a game. He will have big shoes to fill and we will give him a very good opportunity to do so.”
Meanwhile Jeremy has also paid tribute to his outgoing netminder and his contribution to the team’s successes last year.
“We would like to wish Matty the best of luck for the upcoming season, he gave us two great years of service and him moving up to the EPL is another great accomplishment for himself and our organisation. With the Raiders winning the league, other coaches from higher leagues are taking notice and that's a big plus for our team.”
