Romford make first signings
Romford Raiders player-coach Danny Marshall has announced the first members of his new roster as the Raiders embark on their opening season of ENIHL hockey.
The Raiders’ player/coach has agreed terms with four players and is delighted to have secured the services of Tyrone Miller despite stiff competition from rival bidders. The 27 year old defenceman will head up the Romford blueline and will be starting his eleventh successive season at Romford come September.
After some tampering with birth certificates, Jason Buckman was disqualified from ‘Rookie of the Year’ but was otherwise on the rostrum for virtually every other player award last season. His wholehearted efforts made JB an enormously popular member of the 2009/10 Raiders and we are thrilled to confirm that ‘Iron Man’ Bucky will be back.
Coach Marshall has also announced the re-signing of former Elite League winger JJ McGrath who returned to his RVW roots last season. JJ’s versatility and presence was sorely missed on the Raiders’ bench after picking up a bad hand injury but the McGrath paw is now fully healed and the 26 year-old is raring to go.
The final member of the quartet to be confirmed sees the return of another Romford old boy, the talented and hard-hitting Anthony Leone. Anthony has spent time at all of the clubs in the Essex/Kent triangle with spells at Chelmsford and Invicta but now he’s back home at Rom Valley Way – and he’s very welcome!
Danny is continuing his discussions with several other players and although some negotiations are closer to completion than others, the Raiders’ P/C should be ready to announce more team members next week.
