Scimitars to provide players and opposition for Team GB

The recently found success continues at the Sheffield Scimitars with the announcement that four of the young players have been included in the Team GB U20 squad who will be holding one of their regional training camps next week at Ice Sheffield.

Robert Farmer, Matt Haywood, Tom Squires and Ben Bowns will all be on GB duty next Tuesday, which is another feather in the cap for the Scimitars' Coach, Jon Rowbotham, who has been overseeing their development for many years, he said "These young chaps are performing very well on a consistent basis for the Scimitars and so it is only right that they are looked at for the national team. I know they will give a good account of themselves and they will represent the Club in a professional way."

GB Head Coach Pete Russell will be assembling his team for a training camp on Tuesday at Ice Sheffield and the Scimitars have agreed to take part in a Development Game on Tuesday evening, which should give Russell a good chance to see how the young GB team fairs against a predominantly young EPL side albeit with a couple of imports.

The game also allows Scims' Coach Rowbotham to provide an opportunity to a number of players in the junior ranks to make the first step-up to the Senior team. These opportunities do not come along often so it will sure to be a good experience for both sets of players and something that Rowbotham and Russell hope will get the interest of Sheffield's hockey fans as they get to see GB stars of the future.

Rowbotham added "My team is doing really well right now and all the boys want to do is play. We have a busy week-end ahead of us but I've got half an eye on the GB20's as I'll have four players on duty with the team. Next week will be a good test for both teams and I hope that Sheffield can turnout in force to give both sets of players a night to remember".

The Scimitars will host the game on Tuesday 10th November, face-off will be at 7:30pm and general admission is £2.00 (no concessions) payable on the door at Ice Sheffield.
