Seven up as Dundee win in Murrayfield
Stars kept alive their Challenge Cup hopes with an impressive road success against improving Capitals, with the Stars offence proving it’s doubters wrong with a seven-up show!
It’s a first road win of the season for Stars and ends Capitals two game unbeaten run in all competitions.
The quickest EIHL goal of the season so far gave the home side the perfect start when Rene Jarolin netted in only 17 seconds but Stars were back on terms shortly afterwards with Alan Mazur striking at 4.57 on the powerplay. Stars had the better of it after that in the opening period but could not add to their only goal as the teams went in tied at one.
Stars took control in the middle session, hitting three without reply by the 29th minute. Jarrett Konkle was first to count shorthanded after only 31 seconds, Steven Chalmers hit his first ever professional goal at 24.02 and skipper A J McLean made it 4-1 at 28.54, before Capitals pulled one back at 32.48 on the powerplay via the stick of Sean Menton.
The game seemed to be petering out as the third period progressed until a late scoring burst. Capitals reduced the deficit to one when Bari McKenzie scored on the powerplay at 52.21 but Stars then turned it up a notch to pull clear with goals by Jeff Hutchins at 53.14, Konkle with his second at 55.56 and finally Ross McIntosh at 56.47 to ice the win and two important Challenge Cup points.
