Sheffield Steelers 4-3 HYS Den Haag
Photograph of HYS Den Haag in action in the Dutch Eredivise courtsey of www.9pm.nl. Sheffield Steelers got off to a flying start in their Continental Cup campaign in Bolzano by beating Dutch Champions The Hague 4-3 on Friday afternoon.
Jeff Legue led the charge with 2 goals, including the winner, with further strikes from Mark Thomas and Joe Talbot.
Steelers will now play HDK Maribor (Slovenia) on Saturday afternoon in the 2nd game of the game tournament.
Head Coach David Matsos was delighted with the result and the performance "That's more like Steelers hockey" he said "I thought we played a solid 60 minutes, sure we took more penalties than we would have liked but teams from the UK often do as the games are refereed in a different style.
"Jeff Legue was simply outstanding from the first minute to the last, he scored two goals, made great plays and caused the Dutch trouble all night long. The Hague had to take penalties on Jeff and that created our best power play chances. His speed was just incredible and the Dutch couldn't live with him.
"This style of hockey is right down Jeffs street, and we are seeing his speed being a major assault weapon for us.
"I will watch the 2nd game of the tournament tonight between Bolzano and HDK Maribor and see what I can pick up ahead of our game against the Slovenians on Saturday afternoon. This in my opinion is the game of the tournament, beat Maribor and it sets up a Championship game against the host team Bolzano.
