Shudra can't wait for the big day

Steelers legend Ron Shudra says he can't wait to see his shirt hang from the Arena rafters after hearing that the club had decided to retire his number 26 shirt.

"I can't wait for the night" he said "We have talked about for a while this year but now I know it's going to happen I am getting all excited. It's a special honour when a club does that for a player. Your a lucky man when it happens to you, that's how I feel anyway.

"I never wanted to see the shirt in the rafters until I retired properly, so I guess this is the perfect time for the event to happen. I hope a lot of people come out to the game to support the present team in the game with Nottingham, I'm sure they won't mind some old timer holding face off up for 10 minutes before hand.

"Everyone knows what I think of the Steelers, they are my team, I loved playing for them, I still love watching them and I hope my son Cole plays for them as well. I remember walking into that building for the first time and it sent a chill down my neck, it still does.

"I remember the great nights, the big crowds, the huge games with the Panthers and the Devils, I remember scoring big goals and seeing the great emotion on peoples faces. I remember the great joy we all brought the people of Sheffield in those early years.

"They were great times, I am not someone who lives in the past though. The Steelers had great times last year as well and will go on to again I am sure.  I hope the kids I coach today will become Steelers hero's of the future, there isn't any reason why they won't.

"Saturday 20th March is in the diary, my self and the family can't wait. It will be a fantastic day and I will be very proud stood there seeing the 26 shirt lifted into the rafter. I loved my times with the Steelers, without doubt the best days of my life. It will be a great honour to share one more fantastic day with the fans there".
