Simon close to Blaze move?

The Sheffield Star have today reported that the Coventry Blaze have beaten the Sheffield Steelers to the signing of former NHLer Ben Simon. Sources close to BIH have confirmed that Simon has agreed terms with the Blaze with hopes of a quick turn around on his application allowing him to play in Saturday’s top of the table clash against the Newcastle Vipers.
BIH understands that Simon who spent last season with the Iserlohn of the German DEL will play as Coventry’s tenth import until the return of defenceman Jason Robinson from injury. The move is likely to see utility player Tom Watkins take up a role on the blueline during the time. Once Robinson returns to full fitness, Blaze coach Paul Thompson will then have to consider cutting an import or running with eleven.
As BIH reported on Sunday, Simon could become the second former DEL player to join an Elite League club if the rumoured move of Derek Bekar to Cardiff is finalised. Simon, a centre, has extensive NHL and AHL experience with 81 and 437 games in each league respectively.
