Steelers no longer for sale

In sport there is often only a short window of opportunity to successfully conclude negotiations to sell a club. Interest had been shown by a couple of bodies in taking over the operations of the club but not in terms that were acceptable.

A spokesperson for the Elite League confirmed: “There had been a number of meetings and negotiations with interested parties. However, they had not reached a successful conclusion.

“Having looked into the option for sale, the owners of the club are continuing with their focus on preparation for the season, which starts for Sheffield Steelers on Saturday 4th September with a home game against Dundee Stars.”

With the mid-summer discussions regarding ownership concluded, Bob and Maraini Philips will now be redoubling their commitment to the fans, sponsors and players of Sheffield Steelers to ice a competitive team come September.

Maraini Philips added: “We need to put behind us the events of recent weeks and we are looking forward to a fantastic 2010/11 season.

“There is a huge amount of work going on at the club in terms of recruiting players, planning marketing campaigns, developing the new website along with communication platforms and discussions with sponsors.

“Above all, the fabulous supporters of Sheffield Steelers deserve to have the best product possible on the ice and that it exactly what we are going to deliver for them.”

All season ticket holders can look forward to enjoying the magic atmosphere that makes the club, the Sheffield Steelers, and they are encouraged to seek out even more supporters to come along and join the hockey family in Sheffield.

Bob and Maraini Philips look forward to making further announcements during the lead up to the first games of the season and ask sponsors and supporters to be patient as they certainly will not be disappointed.
