Sheffield Steelers fans have the chance to be part of another special hockey night on Tyneside next Saturday, when the Mobilx Vipers host their first "Bash at the Bay".
Sheffield were the visitors in November when the Vipers played their last game of the season at Metro Radio Arena as part of the Drive for Five weekend, and a sizeable Steeler following boosted the crowd to a club-record 4300.
On Saturday at Whitley Bay Ice Rink a resurgent Sheffield side are once again guests of the Vipers at the Newcastle side's Bash at the Bay. Vipers coach Rob Wilson, a former Steelers captain, says the games against Sheffield are still special for him.
"Sheffield games have always been among the first I look for on fixture lists, and I know our fans feel the same.
"The Newcastle teams over the years have had a great rivalry with the Steelers and have played some fantastic games.
"It was fitting for them to be the visitors at our Drive for Five, and again only right they come to Whitley to join in our Bash at the Bay."
In addition to the Elite League game between the two sides, fans can skate before the game from 4.30pm, while the Vipers will also be wearing special one-off jerseys which have been sponsored by supporters.
On Friday night at Sheffield Arena the two sides meet in a rearranged game, and the Vipers are giving Sheffield fans the chance to buy tickets at a reduced rate of only £10 (on the door price £12).
WIlson added: "The games will be pretty important for both sides, it's really tight in the standings for fifth to seventh place with ourselves, Sheffield and Edinburgh all in the mix.
"We are looking forward to two hard fought, exciting games, and hope to welcome a big travelling support from Sheffield to Whitley Bay on Saturday.
"If the fans haven't been there, it's an old-time hockey barn with the fans really close to the action. The noise is contained inside the building so it can be really a loud and really intense atmosphere.
"Sheffield's travelling support is still probably the best in the League, and Whitley Bay is certainly a venue that hockey fans should visit at least once."
Bash at the Bay featuring pre-game skate and Moblix Vipers vs Sheffield Steelers is on Saturday 27 February, skating from 4.30, game starts 6.30pm, at Whitley Bay Ice Rink. Ticket info from the Vipers on 0191 2610909 or vipershockey.co.uk.
