Steelers to retire the #26 of Rocket Ron Shudra.

The Sheffield Steelers have today confirmed their intention of retiring the number 26 worn by club legend Rocket Ron Shudra. To celebrate the event the club will be holding a special ceremony and shirt raising banner night on Saturday 20th March when the club plays it's final home game of the season against arch rivals Nottingham Panthers.

Steelers GM Mike O'Connor said "Its about time Ron was awarded this honour, its right and fitting that the number #26 will hang from the rafters from now until the end of time. I was lucky enough to play along side Ron and I know not only what a great player he was for this club but also what a great ambassador he was for the club and the City of Sheffield.

"Ron was a true hero to Steelers fans, he still is and he is of course our most famous and decorated player. Ron never wanted his shirt retired until after he had stopped playing. This season he has concentrated all of his efforts in to Sheffield's junior development programme where he coaches the juniors at Ice Sheffield including his promising son Cole.

"I think it's fitting that the shirt raising banner night, in fact the Ron Shudra appreciation night takes place on such a big evening with the Nottingham Panthers in town. Ronnie was a huge part of our rivalry with Nottingham in the early years. Ron Shudra is a man who unites a hockey community, he is well respected by every player he ever played with or against, he is respected by fan's throughout the land who know him as not only an outstanding person but one of the nicest men ever put on this planet.

"If any shirt should should hang from the rafters it's the number #26, if any Steeler deserves this honour it's Rocket Ron Shudra".
