Steelers win back to back Murrayfield games
Steelers made it 9 straight wins with a second weekend win in Scotland’s capital city as their title challenge continues at full steam ahead.
A treble by defenceman Steve Birnstill paved the way with fellow blueliner Matt Stephenson scoring twice.
For Capitals however it was a 7th straight loss and they are now getting sucked into a battle for a Play-Off spot with improving Fife gaining momentum.
Steelers were quick to gain the initiative and Ashley Tait fired them ahead after only 68 seconds. Birnstill scored his first at 7.55 before Rene Jarolin got Capitals on the board on the powerplay at 15.25.
Birnstill on the powerplay made it 3-1 at 2.44 of the 2nd period but Capitals stayed in it when Peter Holecko was on the mark at 32.37.
Birnstill completed a straight hat trick at 49.08 but player/coach Richard Hartman again pulled Capitals to within a single goal at 52.43 only for Stephenson to take centre stage and put the game to bed with strikes at 53.25 and 55.26 on the powerplay to give Steelers a winning advantage.
