Stingrays blanked by Steelers
Excel Hull Stingrays were shut out for the third time this season as they went down to a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Steelers at Sheffield Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.
Stingrays, looking to respond following Friday night’s 8-2 home defeat by Coventry Blaze, were again without leading goalscorer Jereme Tendler through illness.
They fell behind in the fifth minute to a Matt Stephenson strike before Andrew McKinney and Steelers defenceman Chad Huttel received five-minute fighting majors.
Jeff Legue doubled Steelers’ lead with 47 seconds of the middle session remaining and victory was wrapped up with 21 seconds left through Luke Fulghum, with goaltender Geoff Woolhouse, who posted a 30-shot shut-out, picking up an assist.
Stingrays take on Dundee Stars at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 12 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
