Stingrays blanked in Cardiff
Excel Hull Stingrays were shut-out for the fourth time this season as they were beaten 7-0 by Cardiff Devils at the Cardiff Bay Arena in the Elite League.
Stingrays made a nightmare start as Wes Jarvis netted after just 16 seconds but despite being out-shot 13-1, they managed to go in at the break just one goal down. But Matt Miller added a second in the 37th minute and Jay Latulippe bagged a third with just three seconds of the middle session remaining to put Devils in control.
Miller’s second of the night saw Stingrays replace injured netminder Martins Raitums with British back-up Andy Jaszczyk before Jarvis (powerplay), Max Birbraer (powerplay) and Ryan Finnerty (powerplay) added further markers in the third period.
Devils netminder Stevie Lyle posted an 18-shot shut-out – his second of the season and both coming against Stingrays, who suffered their fifth loss in six games.
