Stingrays go down to Steelers
Excel Hull Stingrays suffered a 4-1 defeat at defending Elite League and play-off champions Sheffield Steelers at IceSheffield.
Markers from Brad Cruikshank and Matt Hubbauer put Steelers 2-0 ahead at the end of the first period before captain Jonathan Phillips added a third with his first goal in 11 games.
Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier got his side on the board 27 seconds later with his fifth goal of the season but Jeff Legue, Steelers’ leading point-scorer, netted the only goal of the final period, which saw Jason Hewitt ejected for the home side.
Stingrays will look to halt a four-game losing streak when they make their third trip to south Wales this season to take on Cardiff Devils tomorrow.
