Stingrays stunned by Panthers fightback
Excel Hull Stingrays player-coach Sylvain Cloutier admitted the 6-3 home defeat by Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League felt like a kick in the teeth.
Stingrays went into the final period leading 3-1 but Panthers stunned Hull Arena with a five-goal blast. Jade Galbraith (powerplay) had put the visitors ahead before markers from captain Jeff Glowa, Konstantin Kalmikov and Curtis Huppe for the hosts.
A David Clarke brace hauled Panthers level within five minutes of the third session and Galbraith, Cameron Mann and Sean McAslan also netted to leave Stingrays shellshocked.
Cloutier, who returned to the line-up after a knee-ligament injury, said: “We played perfect hockey for the first two periods and did a great job offensively. But then everything just fell apart. They had two defencemen in the box for 12 minutes each and were playing forwards on ‘D’ and that’s when you have to take full advantage but for some reason we couldn’t get going and sat back.”
