This weekend the Swindon Wildcats had to suffer a loss in their only game of the weekend at the hands of the Guildford Flames. Despite 13 points separating the two sides prior to the game, both endured a close first period that saw chances at either end. It was not until the 16th minute that the deadlock was finally broken, however it was the away team that found the net first. After the Flames devised a good triangle play around the Swindon goal, forward Nathan Rempel was there to tap in an across ice pass.

This closed out the first period and set up a second that would eventually see three goals within it. Despite striking the post before Guildford's first, Swindon then hit the metal work once more two minutes into the second before the next goal was seen. Flames' Lukas Smital found himself in front of goal and with stand in netminder Tom Murdy screened, the Czech's shot found the back of the net. Even with the lead doubled, Swindon kept their heads up and battled away throughout the period, looking for their first goal of the night. At 36:18 Swindon then saw action around their net once more and although doing everything to keep the puck out, it somehow found its way into the goal for the Flames' third of the game through previous scorer Rempel.

Responding almost immediately, Swindon then took the game to the travelling side and set up a move which would see their efforts rewarded. The in-form Josef Liska set up defenseman Joe Baird for shot which although was saved by Guildford's Miroslav Hala, saw Coach Ryan Aldridge tap home the rebound at the third attempt of trying. The second buzzer sounded and left the away side with a two goal lead going into the final period.

The third was set up to be a real battle of a game however going against the script was a Guildford Flames side who were to prove why they currently sit second in the league. Six minutes in and twice assisting Rob Lamey then added a fourth for his side after tapping in the puck past the netminder who had made back to back saves to leave him on the floor. Exactly one minute on and the Canadian Rempel then collected his hat trick after intercepting a back pass and deking the netminder to leave the score reading 5-1 with just over five minutes gone into the third. Despite the Wildcats taking a time out shortly after, the Flames were not to slow up and twenty-five seconds on defenseman David Savage then found the final goal of the night after placing an accurate wrist shot to close out the game. From here Guildford played some simple dump and chase plays whilst the Wildcats strung what they could together with the closest effort coming from import Toivo Suursoo who hit the post once again.

Some solid textbook hockey from the Guildford Flames saw them take the win on the night and although Swindon maybe deserved more for their efforts, the Flames proved why they are currently sit three points off the top of the table with only two losses all season to their name. And although only collecting the one goal and hitting the frame of the goal four times in the game, Swindon now need to pick themselves up and prepare for their next game at home against the Peterborough Phantoms on the 13th November.

Final Score: Swindon Wildcat 1-6 Guildford Flames
