TDC Stars finalise roster
The TDC Waste Management Northern Stars Ice Hockey Academy have today finalised their roster for 2010/11 with the signings of Simon Hehir, David Lawrence and Mark Thurman. Defenceman Hehir and netminder Thurman return to the Metro Radio Arena having helped the Newcastle ENL Vipers to promotion from English National League Division 2 last season.
Shot stopper Lawrence has also signed on the dotted line from the Whitley Warriors junior development programme and will compete against Richie Lawson for the TDC Stars starting spot.
TDC Stars joint head coach Stephen Foster was happy to add experience to the blueline in the shape of Hehir: “Simon is an experienced defenceman who can play defence and forward” said the former Durham Wasps netminder. “At the back he is very good and he brings lots of leadership to the team which was one of the reason’s he was assistant captain last season. He’s an excellent guy in the dressing room and someone we’re delighted has agreed to come back”.
“Mark Thurman returns to us after an excellent season last year” said Foster. “He played part of last season injured and came up big for us when we needed him to. Mark will be challenging Richie for the starting spot this season and it will be good for both to have competition to keep them on their toes”.
“Lawrence joins us from Whitley’s under 18’s and this will be his first full senior season” confirmed Foster. “We’re looking for him to push to break into the first team and develop his game further”.
The TDC Stars welcome Tyneside rivals the Whitley Warriors to the Metro Radio Arena on Wednesday (7.30pm face-off). Tickets will be available on the door priced at £5.00 for adults with under 16’s entitled to free admission.
