Excel Hull Stingrays forward Jereme Tendler says battling for a Rapid Solicitors Elite League play-off place is “what it is all about”.

For the past two seasons, Stingrays have been guaranteed a play-off spot courtesy of the league format in 2009/10 – when only eight teams participated – and due to Newcastle Vipers and Edinburgh Capitals running into financial trouble last term.

However, this time it is a completely different story with Stingrays sitting in eighth spot, one point behind seventh-placed Edinburgh and seven clear of second-bottom Dundee Stars.

Tendler, the team’s leading scorer with 29 goals, is relishing the battle and said: “It is good for the league and it is more even than in previous years.

“It makes it more fun and it gives us something to play for, which is what it is all about.

“The season is far from over. It is starting to get exciting and every game is a play-off game, you cannot afford to take a night off.

“We have a good enough team to make the play-offs and then anything can happen.”

Stingrays take on Cardiff Devils at Hull Arena in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday January 29 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Hull Arena Box Office on 01482 325252.
