The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Jereme Tendler hit a hat-trick as Hull Stingrays produced a dazzling display to beat Elite League title contenders Sheffield Steelers 7-2 at Hull Arena.
Stingrays, who welcomed Craig Mitchell back into the line-up after a broken arm but were without his brother Lee (knee), suffered another bad start as goals from Joey Talbot (powerplay) and Tom Squires put Steelers two ahead inside five minutes.
But Matti Uusivirta, with his ninth goal of the season, and Konstantin Kalmikov’s second in as many games hauled Stingrays level by the end of the first period.
Stingrays then took total control as they won the second session 3-0 with markers from top goalscorer Tendler – his 18th this term – former Steeler Ryan Lake and captain Kurtis Dulle.
The fifth goal prompted Steelers to call a time-out but the visitors’ misery continued in the 50th minute when Derek Campbell was ejected for spearing.
Tendler capitalised on the resulting powerplay, which saw Steelers netminder Ervins Mustukovs replaced by Brandon Stones.
Tendler then completed his hat-trick with another powerplay marker as Stingrays enjoyed their first win at the fourth attempt over Steelers this season.
Bench coach Bobby McEwan said: “The guys worked their socks off for the full 60 minutes. The work-rate was fantastic and we stuck to the game plan.
“We were playing well even when we were 2-0 down but we stuck at it and to score seven unanswered goals against a team like Sheffield was a credit to everyone.
“It was great for the fans too, they have a good rivalry with the Steelers and it was a thank you to them for sticking by us after the Cardiff shambles.”
Tendler, in his first season with Stingrays, now has 20 goals in 23 games and McEwan added: “He is really flying right now and to get that many goals before Christmas is a great effort. We knew he could score goals and that is what he was brought here to do.”
Stingrays are back in action tomorrow night when they take on Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League at the National Ice Centre.
