CPP Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson is anticipating a much tougher test when his side head to Fife Flyers in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League tomorrow night.
Blaze shut out the new-boys on the opening weekend of the league season in September, following up a 2-0 win in Kirkcaldy with a 9-0 victory at the Skydome.
But Flyers, despite sitting bottom having won just two of their 21 league games so far, have improved significantly since then.
They lost 3-1 at home to leaders Belfast Giants on Saturday night and Thompson expects his side to be given a similar test.
He said: “Fife produced a plucky performance against Belfast at the weekend and they are a far better team than when we played them at the start of the season.
“We are under no illusion how difficult it is going to be for us. We are also likely to be short-staffed so we are going to have to be on our game.
“It is another long trip to Scotland for us, it will be our fourth up there in less than a month, so we are going to have to be ready.”
Thompson was delighted with his side’s performance in the 3-1 home loss to Sheffield Steelers in the Challenge Cup on Saturday, which was the end of a difficult week for the club.
He added: “It had been a long week but the guys played really well. But Sheffield are finding ways to win right now and that is what good teams do.
“I was very proud of our performance and we need to keep that level of performance going. We have not got a bad team here, we just need to go on a run now and I believe we are capable of doing that, starting in Fife.”
Blaze take on Edinburgh Capitals at the Skydome in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday December 18 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Box Office on 02476 630693 (option 0) or by booking online at www.coventryblaze.co.uk.
