Excel Hull Stingrays have agreed to release British forward Shaun Thompson with immediate effect.

The 22-year-old former Great Britain junior international was signed last summer having posted 17 goals for Basingstoke Bison last season and was their fourth-highest point-scorer.

But he has managed just one goal and 10 assists in 41 games and has seen limited ice time in recent weeks. It prompted the player to ask for his release and he is now expected to join a team in the English Premier League.

Player-coach Sylvain Cloutier: “Shaun came here off a big year in Basingstoke but he has not put up the numbers any of us thought he would.  It is disappointing that he wants to leave but I would like to thank Shaun for his efforts and for helping us out and we wish him all the best for the future.”
