CPP Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson has been thrilled with the form of teenage British defenceman James Griffin since his return to the side.

The 18-year-old missed a total of 18 games – 11 through injury - after sustaining concussion while away with Great Britain Under-20’s for their World Championship campaign in Germany in December.

Griffin scored his first Elite League goal in his second game back – a 6-1 defeat at Nottingham Panthers – and then picked up the man of the match award as Blaze went down to the same opponents by the same scoreline 24 hours later.

Thompson has been delighted with the progress of Griffin, who is in his first full year at this level having been on a two-way deal from English Premier League side Swindon Wildcats last season.

Thompson said: “I like his attitude. He wants to learn. He is like a sponge, he can absorb so much information and is always looking to improve.

“He is a young player learning his trade but I believe he can go on and have a successful career because he has such a good attitude towards the game.”

Blaze take on Braehead Clan at the Skydome in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League on Sunday February 19 (6pm face-off). Tickets can be purchased by ringing the Box Office on 02476 630693 (option 0) or by booking online at www.coventryblaze.co.uk.
