Thornton allowed to join Warriors on loan

Mobilx Newcastle Vipers head coach Rob Wilson today confirmed that British defenceman Richie Thornton has been allowed to join the English National League’s Whitley Warriors on loan. A product of the Billingham youth development programme, Thornton had returned to the Vipers during the summer after spending last season split between the Basingstoke Bison and Hull Stingrays.
However, following an approach by the Warriors to bolster their blueline, Wilson believes the move is good for all concerned.
“When the opportunity came along for Richie to go to Whitley we weren’t going to stand in his way” said Wilson. “Obviously in recent weeks for personal reasons his availability has been limited and right now playing for the Warriors is a much better fit for himself.
“Richie has always been an asset to the club, a guy that is well liked in the dressing room and knows his strengths on the ice. We still feel Richie can have an important role with the club heading into the future, we wish him all the best with the Warriors for his period with them and we look forward to working with him in the future”.
