Canadian defenceman Trevor Read admits Hull Stingrays will have a point to prove when they return to Cardiff Devils in the Elite League on Wednesday night.
The club endured the most embarrassing night in its history when they suffered a 12-0 defeat in front of the Sky Sports cameras on their last visit on November 26.
Stingrays have produced a superb response by winning four and drawing one of their last seven games and they have also been triumphant in eight of their last 14 matches.
Read said: “The last time we were down there it was not pretty. We just did not show up so we have something to prove this time.
“We must be mentally ready to play straight away and compete. Cardiff are the hottest team right now so we are going to have to weather the storm in the first five minutes or so, keep things simple and don’t do anything fancy or cute.
“Cardiff use their home ice to their advantage very well and not many teams go down there and win but they are not invincible. If we compete, work hard and keep things simple then you are going to give yourself a chance to win the game.”
Stingrays’ recent revival has left them just three points behind Braehead Clan in sixth place – with five games in hand.
During that spell, they have drawn at home to Nottingham Panthers and beaten them at the National Ice Centre, they have thumped Sheffield Steelers at Hull Arena and also tasted success at Coventry Blaze.
Read added: “We have caught the attention of the other teams. They know now Hull are not an easy team to play against any more.
“Teams are now not surprised we are winning any more and that’s a compliment. We have competed against all the big teams, we have to make sure we play the same way against the teams below us.”
