The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
It was a winning weekend for the Chelmsford ice hockey teams as a they won a tight game in Bristol against an improving Bristol Pitbulls side 7-4 and won the return leg by the same margin. While the Warriors picked up a fine 2-1 win over division 2 leaders Peterborough Islanders.
A brace each from in-form James Ayling and Tom Long set the Chieftains on their way with the other goals coming from Michael Ranby, Jakub Klima and Gary Clarke. It was a struggle in places and the long bus journey to the West Country began to take it's toll late on, but the Chelmsford side kept on and held on for the win.
An always close game took place back in Essex as the second division Warriors completed the double over league leaders Peterborough Islanders with the goals coming from Cameron Bartlett and Ricky Mills in a crazy 4 minute spell that saw the Islanders score then 2 goals in just over 3 minutes saw the Warriors leapfrog into the lead and held on for a fine win in front of a large crowd. The Warriors now enjoy a 2 week break before they are visited by the Invicta Mustangs on the 21st.
Onto Sunday and spirits were high from the night before in expectation of a repeat win and the Chelmsford players didn't disappoint as once again they ran out 7-4 winners. Alan Green set them on their way with Danny Hammond following up with another goal before Steve Fisher pulled one back for the Pitbulls just before the end of the first. The two sides traded goals in the second with Hammond, Sam Feeney, Michael Ranby and Fisher again all scoring in an action packed second session. Into the third and Clarke led his team from the front by scoring the teams 5th before James Ayling and Ross Brears rounded out the scoring for the home side, but Feeney again netted to ensure a nervous final few minutes.
Next week the team are at home on a rare Saturday game as they will be looking to down the Slough Jets in what could be a routine win, but nothing should be taken for granted as was proven this weekend. On Sunday and the Chieftains will be looking to bounce back at Rom Valley Way from the 8-5 defeat last time they went there on the 2nd of January in the South East Cup.
