This year's BBC Sport Relief appeal takes place over the weekend of March 19-21, which coincides with the end of the regular season in the Elite Ice Hockey League.

On Sunday March 21, the Mobilx Vipers take on Nottingham Panthers (4.30pm) and one member of Vipers staff will be doing their bit to raise money for this worthy cause.

Media manager and presenter of the Vipers' TV highlights Craig Simpson is taking up the challenge laid down by Danny Baker on BBC Five Live and wearing the "Shirt of Hurt".

The challenge is to wear the shirt of your fiercest rivals to raise money for Sport Relief.

After much soul searching, and no little arm twisting, Craig will wear the teal and orange shirt of Sheffield Steelers throughout the entire game on Sunday 21st; Sheffield being rivals for both Newcastle AND Nottingham so double the impact.

The shirt will be worn throughout Craig's normal game day duties - introducing the teams before the game, interval games, and also while presenting the Vipers match highlights before and after the game.

Craig told the website today: "If anyone knows me, then they know I have had my moments of Steelerphobia over the years, and an aversion to the colours teal and orange.

"However, when I heard the Shirt of Hurt being launched on Five Live at the weekend the idea began to form and as it's such a fantastic cause it's something I will happily do to raise money."

An online donation page has been set up to raise money where fans can pledge their support.  Just visit www.mysportrelief.com/vipershockey.
