Rob Wilson has called on his players to show their ruthless side when they are on top of teams and turn their good start into wins.

In both weekend games against Coventry the Vipers had the better of the opening exchanges and were ahead in the late stages of the middle period.

On both nights, though, the Vipers lost their focus and allowed the Blaze back into the games and skate to 5-2 and 6-3 wins respectively.

"We proved to ourselves once again that we can play with these teams, it's about being more consistent," said Wilson today.

"On Saturday night we had Coventry on the ropes, we played great in the first period, had powerplays but we didn't capitalise and it hurt us badly.

"Momentum changed into their favour and they slowly took over the game.

"It was very similar on Sunday, we played very well in the first, very well for sixteen minutes of the second.  We were in control, winning 2-1.  We have to learn to kill teams off.

"I know that other teams have players who are game-breakers but we have to find a way to make it happen for us, if we don't then these so-called bigger teams will slowly get away from us."

Wilson refused to panic after a fourth loss at the club's new home, Whitley Bay, where they will complete the season after moving from Metro Radio Arena.  So is the lack of a win at Hillheads a worry?

"Not to me, perhaps to other people.  We dominated Sheffield for two periods and didn't finish the job, we dominated Coventry there for long stretches.  Whitley has nothing to do with it, it's about us finding a way to close out games."

Saturday's game against Belfast is at Whitley Bay's Hillheads rink, and starts at 6.30pm.  The match is not covered by the Season Ticket, fans who have purchased the "Bolt On" package will require Bolt On Ticket 2 for this game.

Advance tickets can be bought from the club offices in Shakespeare Street, Newcastle, by telephone on 0191 2610909 or online at www.vipershockey.co.uk.  For this game there will be a free child ticket with every full-paying adult ticket purchased.
