The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Scott Langdon's goal four minutes from time gave the Vipers a 5-4 win in this Bragging Rights encounter, but after the game coach Danny Stewart said the credit has to go to the Warriors.
In a blood and thunder encounter, a throwback to derby games of old, the Warriors were certainly 'up for it', and were ahead by 4-2 at the end of the second period.
In goal for Whitley James Flavell had the night of his life, saving 44 of the 49 shots on his net.
Toms Hartmanis gave the Vipers an early lead, only for Ryan Sample to respond within a minute for 1-1. The Vipers' Latvian forward netted again on 10 minutes, before Whitley hit back through Callum Watson and Adam Reynolds to take a 3-2 lead into the first interval.
The middle session saw a 13-4 shot count in the Vipers favour, but the only strike to tally was Pavol Melichercik for Whitley - a Slovakian import on loan from Solway Sharks. Flavell in the Warriors pipes was like a brick wall.
The final frame saw a couple of bouts of roughing, while ex Warrior Sam Zajac netted on the powerplay at 43.32 to reduce the arrears.
Newcastle captain Paul Sample tied the scores with ten minutes to play before Langdon's late strike gave the Vipers the win on the night.
Post game, Vipers coach Danny Stewart said: "We perhaps underestimated the type of game it was going to be, and that's possibly down to me.
"However, you have to give credit to Whitley Bay. Simon and his team battled for sixty minutes, the played hard and were certainly up for the challenge.
"We have a few days ourselves to work some things out, ahead of the weekend games. I'm pleased we were able to get through and find a way to win."
Vipers begin their League campaign this weekend with a trip to Sheffield on Saturday before their home opener "Ice Wars" on Sunday, at Hillheads, 5.30pm face off.
Tickets are on sale from the Vipers office on 0191 4774100 or vipershockey.co.uk/shop.
