Warriors sign former EIHL netminder
Whitley Warriors last night added further Elite League experience to their squad with the capture of former Hull Stingrays netminder Andrew Jaszczyk and coach Garry Dowd is delighted to see the 22-year-old stopper join the Hillheads club.
"I've been chasing Andrew for a few weeks," Dowd revealed, "and I'm very pleased to have finally got him on board.
"He has played in the Elite League for three years and will have gained invaluable experience during that time, something he now brings to Whitley."
Jaszczyk played 22 Elite Leagues during his spell with the Stingrays, a decent average for a British keeper in a league were imports dominate, and Dowd believes he is the ideal replacement for the departing James Flavell; who has returned to Billingham now that the rink has re-opened in the town.
"James had some big shoes to fill when he replaced Tom Murdy in the Whitley goal and did a great job, but I'm equally certain Andrew will do exactly the same; and I'm very happy with the replacement."
Having spent three years in Hull, Jaszczyk was in need of ice time, so the Whitley coach feels the move is mutually beneficial.
"Andrew needs to be playing regular games, while we needed a starting keeper, and with the defence we already have in place, I think we have things sorted out at that end of the ice.
"Now all we maybe needs is a prolific goal scorer to compliment the lads we already have up front; and we are working on bringing someone in."
The addition of Jaszczyk brings to five the number of Whitley players who have played in the Elite League, with Kevin Bucas, DJ Good, Jamie Tinsley and Rob Wilson all previously turning out for the Newcastle Vipers.
