Wightlink sign second import
The Wightlink Raiders have finally got their man with the signing of their second import just days before the start of their ENL title defence for this season.
25 year old forward Joe Rand hails from Hamilton, Ontario and will join up with his new teammates on the island in the next week.
At 6’2 and 190lbs Rand will bring a strong physical presence to Ryde Arena. Most of his hockey career so far has been played out in Toronto where he appeared in the OHL for Toronto St Michael’s Majors before playing 5 seasons with the University of Toronto Blues. For his last two seasons there he was voted the team’s Best All Round Forward averaging a point a game in his time there. Last year Rand played in Germany’s Oberliga for Fire Deggendorf where he finished the season with 20 goals and 15 assists from 43 games as well as 56 penalty minutes.
A Raiders spokesperson says player coach Jeremy Cornish is delighted to finally seal the signature of the player he wanted.
“Ever since we lost our original import Jeremy has been working flat out to find a guy who’d fit straight into the team and make the impact we need and I know he feels Joe is exactly the player to do that. We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the Island over the next week or so.”
The Raiders get their league season underway next Sunday away to Bracknell Hornets before welcoming Streatham Redskins to Ryde Arena for the first home game on Sat 17th.
