Swindon Wildcats are delighted to confirm that they have secured the services of winger Toivo Suursoo for the 2010/11 and 2011/12 English Premier Ice Hockey League campaigns.
Suursoo hails from Tallinn in Estonia and was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings organisation in the 11th round, 283rd overall, of the 1994 NHL Entry draft. The 6-foot 34 year-old has enjoyed a successful career in some of the world's top ice hockey leagues.
The highly sought-after winger includes such showcase clubs as the Soviet Wings in the IHL, Adirondack and Cincinnati in the AHL as well as stints in the top leagues in Sweden, Denmark, Belarus and Latvia in his career, including recent championship medals from seasons 2005 and
2008 in Denmark.
In joining the Wildcats, Suursoo makes his first appearance in the United Kingdom and his new Head Coach is excited to see what the experienced winger has to offer the Premier League:
"Toivo is a top player, a guy that our fans will love to watch play every night", said an enthusiastic Ryan Aldridge of his latest acquisition.
"There are not too many guys in our league - if any - that have enjoyed a career like his.
"He is a great skater, very strong on the puck and has a great shot.
"You can tell by the teams and leagues he has played in and the players he has played amongst that this guy is all about talent.
"He will make the players around him better, our PP better and most of all the whole team environment better.
"He comes with pure pedigree and I am over the moon about having him on board with us for the next two years."
