The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
Last Sunday saw the Swindon Wildcats take on the Guildford Flames in what turned into one of best games of recent weekends. Although containing goals, big hits, a large amount of penalties and a penalty shot, the Wildcats had to swallow a 3-2 defeat to the league leaders. While the likes of Douglas, Liska and Stone all looked on from the sidelines, Swindon did welcome new signing James Knight to side who made his home debut in the red and white that night.
The game itself opened in rapid style as the two exchanged multiple chances before the puck was to the find the net for the first in the game. It would be the Flames who would open the scoring and at 11:34, Guildford's Rick Plant managed to score on a wrap around effort on a delayed penalty call. However this was soon to be cancelled out when the home side then scored two minutes later. Coach Ryan Aldridge was able to tap home an effort, after Bauba's initial shot left the puck in front of net to then be tapped in between the netminders' pads. Before the period was out Swindon were then given a penalty shot after Jamie Hayes was bought down, only to then see it saved by netminder Hala to keep it all level. However moments later and the Wildcats were then able to take the lead once more, after Bauba himself then scored on a one timer from a pass from previous scorer Ryan Aldridge.
The second period then saw its fair share of goals and after having several chances on the Wildcat goal, Guildford then found the net once more through Neil Liddiard. An across ice pass left the Flames player with a gap to aim for and with little hesitation, the puck found its way past Swindon's James Hadfield. Two minutes on and Guildford then made it three through a slapshot from the point, coming off the stick of Jez Lundin to give his side the lead to end the period.
The final third was were the tension began to creep in and with the hits coming thick and fast, the crowd were heard by both teams as the two battled for that next important goal. Despite hitting the pipes twice and finding various chances on net, Swindon just could not get past the Flames' defence who consequently sat back and defended a score of what they thought could see them to the end. The final buzzer confirmed their beliefs and a win to take back with them on the road. Again the Wildcats had to taste defeat after yet another good performance but with no points to show. A tough one to swallow but with no away game next weekend, Swindon can now concentrate on a solitary home game against the Peterborough Phantoms next Saturday night.
