Wilson: Szwez best player in the league
Belfast’s Jeff Szwez is the best player in the Elite League, that’s according to Mobilx Newcastle Vipers head coach Rob Wilson. Speaking today following Szwez’s hat-trick and assist in the Giants 8-0 thrashing of the Vipers on Sunday, Wilson believes the former Philadelphia Phantom has transformed Belfast’s fortunes already.
“We played Belfast early doors and they were clearly not ticking” said Wilson. “But since the addition of Szwez we’ve played them twice and in both games he’s been outstanding for them, he’s obviously a marquee player and right now I don’t think anyone in the Elite League is anywhere near him – he could well turn out to be the league MVP come the end of the season.
“I am sure most teams in the league would love to have a player of his standard and you can see he has totally transformed their line-up since his arrival.”
Since arriving in Belfast, Szwez has recorded an impressive ten goals and five assists in nine games.
