The hockey season is back, and you can follow it all with us right here on BIH.
We are working on an archive of matches, stats and players from BIH in the past few years.
The Flames will be without the services of Vinny Zavoral for the remainder of this season. The Czech forward was injured on September 26th in a game against Slough Jets. He did not finish that match and was sidelined for the ensuing 12 games during which he underwent a rehabilitation programme intended to delay a repair until the end of the current campaign. The 6’3”, 220lb skater returned to the line up on November 14th and played 3 more games in an unsuccessful recovery effort before conceding, with the support and agreement of the Flames organisation, that the most sensible decision was to commit to immediate treatment that will limit his 2009-2010 season to the 6 games in which he has already iced.
Zavoral joined the Flames in 2005-2006 and helped the club to the EPL title during his inaugural season at Spectrum. Since that time he has added the 2007 Premier Cup and the 2007-2008 league championship. The former draft pick of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs has 206 Flames games under his belt and has posted 88 goals and 174 points over that stretch. He is the club’s all time penalty leader as the only player in club history to surpass the 1000 minute barrier. Internationally, Zavoral represented his country at the world junior championships in 1999 ahead of a mostly North American pro career in the United and Central Hockey League with Flint Generals, Kansas City Outlaws, Elmira Jackals, and Memphis Riverkings.
Paul Dixon, Flames Head Coach, discussed the situation:
“Vinny is always game for getting out there and playing through just about anything, but there comes a point when everyone has to agree that it is neither in the club’s or the players personal best interests to continue to try and play through a significant injury that is not getting better. It is an unfortunate situation, and we know Vinny is very disappointed but it is sometimes part of the reality of this line of work. The best we can do sacrifice the remainder of his season so that he can get the problem sorted and begin the road to recovery as quickly as possible. We will now work with Vinny to help make that happen.”
