Aaron Fox becomes Sheffield Steelers record holder

Sheffield Steelers head coach Aaron Fox became the most successful coach in the club’s history following their 8-3 victory over Manchester Storm on Saturday.

It was the Steelers’ ninth victory of the campaign, and a result which saw them leapfrog Belfast Giants into fourth place in the Elite League standings.

On an individual level, Fox earned his 223rd victory as head coach, surpassing Alex Dampier’s record of 222 wins.

Fox joined the Sheffield Steelers ahead of the 2019/20 season, replacing Tom Barrasso.

He had previously enjoyed six seasons in Croatia working as sports manager and head coach for Medvescak Zagreb.

As a player, Fox turned professional in 2000 and went on to spend 11 seasons in Europe, playing in Slovakia, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia.

He hung up his skates in 2013, before taking up an off-ice role on Zagreb.

On the accolade, the Steelers head coach said: “It’s always great to [earn] that kind of accolade.

“It means that I’ve been here long enough to accumulate a bunch of wins, and I’m happy that I’ve been given the tools to create the culture that I feel like our group has, [and] the identity and the fan base.

“[We get] 7,000-8,000 people in here every night expecting to win. That’s how I build my teams, and I expect that as well.”
