The Guildford Flames have completed the signing of rookie defenceman Sean Comrie.
Comrie arrives in the Elite League after four seasons in USports at MacEwan University, for whom he tallied 40 points (18 goals, 22 assists) in 91 appearances.
Before his spell with the Griffins, the Canadian scored 26 points (three goals, 23 assists) in 51 Western Hockey League outings for the Kelowna Rockets.
“Sean is a mobile Right hand shot defenceman who can handle and move the puck,” Flames head coach Paul Dixon said of the 25-year-old.
“He and Ethan Strang played together in University, so he will be able to have a bit of familiarity when he arrives.
“He is a relatively young guy and will be leaving North America for his first time so hopefully he will find that useful in helping him settle in quickly.”
Comrie spent this age-18 season in the NCAA with the University of Denver, recording one point in 18 games played as a depth defender.
Analysis: Guildford Flames fill out defence corps with Sean Comrie
The Guildford Flames have five of their six blueline vacancies filled.
Sean Comrie joins the Travis Brown, Charlie Curti, Jake Gravelle, and Jamal Watson in Surrey — and he is Paul Dixon’s most interesting addition to date.

Graduating into the professional ranks out of USports, the Edmonton-born defender faces manageable expectations.
Comrie’s final season at MacEwan University was his best (with 14 points in 27 games), but he has never been a key offensive producer — and nobody should expect him to become one in Guildford.
Instead, he plays a smooth, defensively-responsible game, breaking up attacks with his body and stick.
Tipped for second or third pair deployment, Comrie’s passing ability will make him an important part of Dixon’s breakout plans.
USports is a well-established talent source for the Elite League; Comrie is set to become the latest example of shrewd recruitment from Canada’s college system.
