Coventry Blaze have signed experienced German forward Björn Bombis.

The 33-year-old has played all of his professional career in his native country, competing in the top two divisions.

He has spent the last four seasons with the Fischtown Pinguins, winning the DEL2 title in 2013/14.

Bombis said: “I’m thrilled to become part of the Blaze organisation.

“I feel enthusiastic, energised and also challenged to prove that I can contribute to the team’s success and become a big part of it for the upcoming season.

“My wife and I are always open for new challenges. We both look forward to experiencing a different culture and hockey market.

“I have played professional hockey since I was 18, so I bring experience on and also off the ice.

“I like to look at myself as having a good work ethic and being a good example for young players.

“On the ice, I like to think that people can expect a skilful forward with good offensive instincts that likes to create offense and set up plays whilst also not shying away from the defensive aspects of the game.

“I like to learn and get better every day, even being in my thirties.”

Head Coach Danny Stewart added: “Bringing Bjorn into the Coventry Blaze gives us another added element to our forward unit.

“He’s a very smooth and skilled player whose strengths are his composure with the puck and getting the puck to guys in good scoring areas.

“He’s a passer type guy that will create a lot of goals for us. He will also be a huge asset on our powerplay with his playmaking ability.

“He brings a huge amount of experience in the DEL and DEL2 where he has put up some very good numbers and been very productive.”
