Coventry Blaze have extended defenseman James Isaacs’ trial for a further two weeks.

The Midlands team moved off bottom spot in the Elite League standings this weekend with wins against Dundee Stars and Sheffield Steelers, and Isaacs took regular shifts in both games.

Blaze Director of Hockey James Pease said: “It all happened so quickly with James. We spoke initially and it was clear the guy wanted to get on the ice and impress us. Before we knew it he was here, with stick and skates in hand and ready to go.

“To come in to a new dressing room, not knowing most of the guys, and having to learn systems quickly isn’t an easy thing to do, but he pulled it off and full credit has to go to him.

“I spoke with Chuck (Weber) and we see it as a no-brainer. The next couple of weeks is a busy period for us, with trips to Cardiff, Nottingham and Belfast, so we recognise we need as many bodies as we can.

“Isaacs has done a good job for us so far, and therefore we are more than happy to extend the trial.”

Coventry Head Coach Weber added: “Isaacs is exactly as advertised, and probably a bit more. I’m sure the fans that saw our games this weekend recognise the effort James made to impress them and us, and he deserves the chance to stay with us longer.

“His attitude has impressed us, so let’s see what the next two weeks brings.”
