Braehead Clan have confirmed the signing of Canadian forward Matt Beca.

The 30-year-old arrives from a spell in Slovakia, where he helped HK Nitra win the play-offs, and is now set for his fourth season in Europe.

Clan boss Ryan Finnerty revealed Beca was a target for the club last year and reckons his recent success is a good thing to bring to the team.

“Any time you’ve won anything in the past is good and if it’s more recent, then all the better,” said Finnerty.

“He’s played in good organisations through his career, apart from Italy, which was a tough spot, but he finished the season in Slovakia and won the play-offs.

“Matt’s got a taste for European hockey and I think he’ll fit in very well here as an offensive guy and someone we looked at last year and has been on our radar for some time.

“He can play on the right wing and on any line and we’re looking to put a good mix in. Matt will certainly fill that role on the right side and will produce at every level.”

Beca first arrived in Europe to play for Bad Nauheim in Germany where he iced alongside Marcus Gotz, before starting last season in Italy with Valpellice.

He moved to HK Nitra during the campaign and left Slovakia with a play-off medal before agreeing to head to the Elite League.
