Edinburgh Capitals have secured the services of tough Canadian forward Ian Schultz for the 2016/17 Elite League campaign.

The 26-year-old was drafted by the St Louis Blues in 2008 and has since gone on to carve out a successful career in the AHL and ECHL.

Over the past three seasons Schultz has played primarily in the ECHL for the Allen Americans and picked up the Kelly Cup (play-off championship) in 2014/15.

Schultz said: “I’ve had success in my six years pro in North America and have always heard it’s a different game over in Europe – I’d like to try my hand at that.

“I’ve always considered myself a good two-way player, and with the bigger ice I’m sure it will test all my abilities offensively and defensively.

“I feel I’m a fairly exciting player to watch, whether it be my play making abilities, scoring a big goal, or setting up someone else for a goal.

“If it’s the rough and tumble stuff I’m not afraid to get my nose dirty and above all I absolutely love to win.”

Player/Coach Michal Dobron added: “Our fans will love Ian – he is an offensive threat, but also happy to protect the team, something I felt we needed.

“Players like Ian, who have toughness and skill, are not easy to find – we’ve just brought in someone who I know the fans are going to love every single game.”
