Edinburgh Capitals have signed Canadian forward Mason Wilgosh.

The 25-year-old moves to the Elite League after four years studying at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).

Last season Wilgosh was third highest scorer with eight goals and 20 assists in 28 games for the University’s hockey team, the Panthers.

“When I first decided to head overseas many of my previous coaches had mentioned the Elite League would be a good fit for me,” said Wilgosh.

“Once the Capitals had contacted me and talked about the team, fans and the city of Edinburgh it sounded like a perfect fit for me.

“I’m a hard working player who competes hard every shift. I like to play a gritty game and have the ability to contribute offensively.”

General Manager Scott Neil added: “From speaking to contacts including his coach at the University he’s described as being a pesky forward in the agitator mould.

“He has a good mix of speed and skill and can mix it up in front of the net. I’m told he has a great work ethic which fans will appreciate, and he also shows strong leadership qualities.

“I attended UPEI in the 80s and have kept in touch with a number of contacts there – Mason comes highly recommended.

“I spoke with Michal (Dobron) about the player and we agreed he would fit perfectly in to our plans for the coming season.”
