Edinburgh Capitals have added Nikita Kolesnikovs to the squad following the departure of Nate Fleming from the club for personal reasons.

The Latvian defenseman has previous experience in Norway, Italy and Denmark, while most recently he played for Hungarian club Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák in the MOL League.

Player/Coach Riley Emmerson said: “It’s sad to see Nate go and I thank him for his time with the team. We had to move quickly on a player and after receiving a number of recommendations I’m happy we’ve secured Nikita to come to the club.

“He is a big mobile frame, who plays a strong defensive game and makes a great first pass. He is also a very physical ‘D’ man who loves to finish checks and can take time and space away from opponents.

“He has shown great promise to play at a high level with his inclusion for a KHL try out with Medvescak Zagreb. We have the offense to win games and I am pleased to add a big ‘D’ man to help shore up our defensive zone.”

Kolesnikovs added: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Edinburgh and thank Ned Lukacevic for recommending me.

“I know him well from Slovakia and he knows my style which is suited to the North American game and thinks it will be a great fit for the Elite League.”
