Cardiff Devils have confirmed the signing of Andreas Valdix on a short-term contract to help cover injuries.

He has been brought in to help cover for the injured Brandon McNally, who was injured in the club’s home game against the Guildford Flames on September 25 and has missed the last three games for the Devils.

Valdix is expected to join the Devils tomorrow in Helsinki and travel with the team to play Lukko Rauma on Wednesday in the Champions Hockey League, with McNally expected to be out for at least four weeks.

Valdix is no stranger to the EIHL, playing two seasons for the Sheffield Steelers and one for the MK Lightning. He put up point totals of 36, 45 and 46 in his three seasons in the UK.

Last season, he played in Germany for Lippe-Hockey-Hamm where he scored 13 goals and assisted 13 more in 18 games. Before signing for the Devils, Valdix was training and skating in Sweden while still looking for a permanent contract for 2021-22.

“We are pleased to be able to sign a quality player like Andreas on short notice,” said head coach Jarrod Skalde.

“He brings a lot of experience at the EIHL level and has played previously in the Champions League with the Steelers.

“It is a whirlwind for him right now and we are looking forward to meeting up with Andreas in Helsinki tomorrow ahead of our game in Rauma on Wednesday.”
