Braehead Clan have announced the signing of Canadian left winger Corey Cowick for the 2016/17 Elite League season.

The 27-year-old arrives from the Florida Everblades in the ECHL and has played in the AHL with Binghamton Senators and Springfield Falcons.

Clan Head Coach Ryan Finnerty admitted he was pleased to finally get the deal for Cowick over the line.

“Corey’s name was high on our list early – we even though at one point he was unattainable,” said Finnerty.

“We were able to persist with his agent which involved some long nights and lengthy phone calls and messages, but we eventually arrived at a deal and we’re delighted to have him.

“We’ve been looking for some size – a power forward kinda guy and plays a powerful game as he gets to the net.

“He maybe hasn’t got the numbers he would like, but if you look at his output in the American league, he’s scored 15, 16 goals a season.

“We want to give him that opportunity. We like that he can play a power game and that he’s not afraid to get in the mix and play in the hard areas.

“We think if we can surround him with the type of players we want to, we’ll see that offence he had in the AHL and then some.”

Cowick played 71 times for the Everblades last year, scoring 14 goals and assisting in a further 12 and becomes the club’s 13th signing of the summer.
